Indoor Spaces
The Early Childhood Program building was intentionally designed to provide additional indoor spaces for children to explore beyond their classrooms. One such destination is the Library, where children and teachers snuggle up to read a story or peruse the shelves to find just the right book to read at group time.
Located behind the parent entry area, The Playspace provides a spot for small groups of children to read books, play with toys and hang out on the climbing structure.
Every classroom has a scheduled morning and afternoon time in our large gross motor room, which we call The Red Room. Teachers change the materials and the environment to match the developmental needs and interests of each age group. All-school special events like The Bubble Guy, Pumpernickel Puppets and winter movement classes take place in this large, carpeted room.
Outdoor Spaces
Our Infant-Toddler Playground provides young children with a safe place to practice their emerging motor skills. Driving the play car, climbing on the structure, riding mini-bikes, playing in the house and digging in the sand are favorite pastimes in this popular area.
The Preschool Playground is a large, multi-leveled area with a balance of shade and sun. Amidst the trees and plantings are a variety of play areas including a gazebo, climbing structure, hillside slide, sandbox with a house, sand area with a water pump, swings, car, easels, overlook and gardens.
Each of the seven classrooms has a door leading out to one of our five Decks. These decks enable us to bring the indoor classroom outside, as children eat snack, play with activities or enjoy water play. In inclement weather, children still have the opportunity to get some fresh air, when they play under one of our covered decks.
Our location on the corner of the Wellesley College Campus enables us to take walks to a wonderful assortment of places. The Greenhouse, Topiary Trees, Arboretum, Stream, Paramecium Pond, Severance Hill and the Sports Center are just some of our favorite spots to explore on the Wellesley College campus.
On walks to Downtown Wellesley, children might visit the Post Office, the Library, the Duck Pond, the Hunnewell School playground or any of the local shops.
